By Team BLAM

First Lady Michelle Obama made a guest appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno to discuss a number of topics including the president’s singing. In the  interview, Mrs. Obama says the president’s highly publicized performance was “completely spontaneous.” “I didn’t even hear about it until it got on YouTube,” she tells Jay Leno. “But he does have a beautiful voice and he sings to me all the time. He doesn’t hesitate to show off his lungs to his wife.”

We love it! #GoTeamObama

Here’s Mitt Romney singing “America The Beautiful” that Jay Leno asked Mrs. Obama about.

Did You Miss The State Of The Union Address? Catch The Full Speech & Behind The Scenes Here.

By Team BLAM

The State of the Union is an annual address presented by the President of the United States to the United States Congress. The address not only reports on the condition of the nation but also allows the president to outline his legislative agenda (for which he needs the cooperation of Congress) and his national priorities.

The practice arises from a command given to the president in the Constitution of the United States:

He shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.

 — Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution

Although the language of the Constitution is not specific, by tradition, the President makes this report annually during the late January.

While not required to deliver a speech, every president since Woodrow Wilson has made the State of the Union report as a speech delivered before a joint session of Congress. Before that time, most presidents delivered the State of the Union as a written report.

Our family watched President Obama’s State Of The Union Address last night. Did you? What are your thoughts? If you missed it, check out the behind the scenes action and the actual address below and let us know your thoughts.

Pictured in their seasons best, the Obama’s were photographed in the oval office by White House photographer Pete Soe Sosa. This picture is the newest update of Malia now 13 years old and Sasha, 10, since their last family portrait taken back in 2009. They are such a beautiful family. We hope they get some much needed restoration and connection during this holiday season. That’s what it’s all about…FAMILY.

President Obama Supports Small Business Saturday & Takes Daughters’ Shopping

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has pitched in to help small businesses get into the holiday shopping season.

The president took his daughters, Malia and Sasha, along on a shopping run to a bookstore a few blocks from the White House.

He says he made the visit because it’s “small business Saturday” and he wanted to support a small business.

The retail industry is encouraging shoppers to patronize mom-and-pop businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It’s a counterpoint to Black Friday and the sales and special deals offered by department stores and other large retailers.

The Obamas walked out with a selection of books including “The Invention of Hugo Cabret,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever” and “Descent into Chaos: The U.S. and the Disaster in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia.”

First Lady Michelle Obama’s New Book Will Be About Food…Ahem…Healthy Food

By Team BLAM

It’s official! First Lady Michelle Obama will be an author come April–April 10th to be exact. Her publisher, Crown Publishing Group, just released the cover art for the new book, American Grown: How the White House Kitchen Garden Inspires Families, Schools and Communities.

Says Crown:

“The book will speak to these issues which Mrs. Obama has strongly advocated for and will also include practical ideas, recipes, resources and tips on how to begin a garden of any size, anywhere,. Mrs. Obama accepted no advance for the book and will donate all net or after-tax author proceeds to a charity or charities to be named later.”

Kudos to our First Lady for her commitment to raising our awareness about healthy eating, exercising, and living. Her emphasis on this critical issue in our community really does make an impact. Unlike a lot of other government officials we can identify with and see ourselves in Mrs. Obama and because of that it makes you pause and say “How can I do a little better today with my health.”

BLAM Fam: You know what it is….Stop Playing. Start Pushing.

Have You Seen First Lady Michelle Obama’s New White House Portrait?

By Team BLAM

When I heard that our First Lady Michelle Obama had released a new White House Portrait I, like most of us, was curious to see it. I must say I wasn’t expecting to see Bo the family dog in the picture too.

Apparently, one of the most popular members of the First Family is Bo, the Portugese water dog given to the Obamas by the late Senator Ted Kennedy. Kids who write in will receive this new picture taken in the White House garden and signed by Bo himself with a paw print and all. We love it!

Here’s what the First Lady had to say:

“It is me and Bo and we’re in the garden,” said the first lady of the portrait Monday, the day it was first officially released. “And one of the reasons we did this picture is because we get so many letters from kids, mostly, who want to hear about the garden, they want to see it, and they also want to see Bo. Bo is really the most popular.”

“We’ve heard so many great stories from kids who’ve been inspired and doing things like changing the way their families do things. And those letters are always just a joy to get,” said Mrs. Obama. “So we want to have something a little more tangible than just a letter to give to kids, because often it’s the visual thing that makes it real.”

So, BLAM Fam will you be getting your pen and paper out and helping your children send off a letter so you can get a copy of this new White House portrait?
