The Mess Of Modern Day Microwave Marriages
By Team BLAM
By now you’ve probably heard that Kim Kardashian filed divorce papers on Monday. The reason? Irreconcilable differences. She told The Scoop: “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” . “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
Apparently her husband Kris Humphries isn’t on the same page. “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce,” he said in a statement to E! News. “I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”
This 72 day marriage had a prenuptial agreement so all they have to do now is take what’s theirs and move on. Who knew? Their wedding (not marriage) was one of the biggest and most lavish celeb events of the year.
*For example, according to US Magazine, the bride, 30, wore three ivory Vera Wang gowns throughout the night, and strictly requested her guests wear either black or white. Kim’s sisters — Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and the groom’s sister Kaela — all wore ivory Vera Wang gowns as well.
*The altar where Kim and Kris, 26, exchanged their vows was a huge cross made of Swarovski crystals. “It was a bit much,” a source said. “But Kris’ family are Christians and very religious, so maybe that was a way of incorporating in religion and Kardashian style.”
*The couple’s black and white cake — designed by Hansen Cakes in LA, and estimated to cost a whopping $15,000 to $20,000 — was a six foot tall, black and white masterpiece.
I’m not even hating on the the bling on steroids represented all throughout the wedding. Hey, if you got it like that–do you. But, what the H E double hockey sticks is up with a 72 day marriage??? Of course, rumors are already out and about.
Reports are saying that tension in the marriage spread across entertainment media for the past week, with reports of 26-year-old New Jersey Nets player Humphries’ reluctance to play his role in the Kardashian brand and differences over where the newlyweds should make their home. Really?
I even heard on the radio (actually while writing this) that the wedding was a big scam and that each of them made a cool 7 million from this whole….”performance”, I guess?
Look I don’t know, you don’t know–only the two of them really know what the deal is but I want to speak for a moment on what I do know. Here’s what I DO know:
Marriage is a COVENANT not to be trifled with.
A covenant marriage is intended by God to be a lifelong relationship representing unconditional love, reconciliation, and growth.
A covenant is an eternal commitment with God. People can negotiate out of contracts, but not out of a covenant. And, don’t hit me with “Well, what if someone’s being abused?!” That’s not what I’m talking about, ok?
Marriage is supposed to be a lifelong covenant relationship. When a couple shares their wedding vows, they are (supposed to be) vowing to God, each other, their families, and their community to remain steadfast in unconditional love, commitment, and reconciliation while purposefully growing in their relationship.
That word steadfast is significant. Look it up. Here’s what it means….
Steadfast: Firmly loyal or constant. Fixed in intensity or direction. Steady.Unwavering or determined in purpose.
As much as we here at BLAM advocate that only you and your spouse can, at the end of the day, define your marriage and what works for you — Marriage is not just whatever we say it is. It’s not a game. It’s not a show. It’s not a performance. It’s not to be disrespected or played with.
I think most of us know better but lawd have mercy whether your name is Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries or Jane & John Doe WE GOT TO DO BETTER!
Stop Playing. Start Pushing.
