Megachurch pastor and televangelist Creflo Dollar — who has drawn scrutiny for his flashy lifestyle and preaching that prosperity is good — was arrested early Friday after authorities say he slightly hurt his 15-year-old daughter in a fight at his metro Atlanta home.

Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of domestic violence at the home in unincorporated Fayette County around 1 a.m., said investigator Brent Rowan. The pastor and his daughter were arguing over whether she could go to a party when Dollar “got physical” with her, leaving her with “superficial injuries,” Rowan said.

The 15-year-old was the one who called authorities, and her 19-year-old sister corroborated the story, Rowan said.

Dollar faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. He bonded out of Fayette County jail Friday morning.

“As a father I love my children and I always have their best interest at heart at all times, and I would never use my hand to ever cause bodily harm to my children,” Dollar said in a statement released by his lawyer Nikki Bonner. “The facts in this case will be handled privately to further protect my children. My family thanks you for your prayers and continued support.”

Dollar will make no further comments since he’s involved in the ongoing criminal matter, but he is expected to preach Sunday, Bonner said.

Diva,Power Professional,Wife & Mama. Can We Really Do It All?

Women have always had to deal with how to juggle our many roles and how those roles make us feel. Can we be a Power Professional & a Housewife? A Fly Diva and a Mother? Can we be independent yet dependent? In 2011, there are many women who would say it’s just too tough to combine these roles and you need to “pick a role” and do that one well.

Well, as a wife who just about worships her husband, intensely loves her 4 children, and fiercely knows she is a Mogul in the making—I feel I can do it all!

The below article from AOL Black Voices got me to thinking about this topic and the notion of being a “housewife” and/or a “businesswoman” and what we all attach to those labels.

When I was younger, in moments of my most impertinent, most naive arrogance, I wondered why my extraordinarily intelligent mother decided to become a housewife. Why didn’t she do more with her great gifts? It was Alice Walker’s groundbreaking 1974 essay ‘In Search of Our Mother’s Gardens’ that matured me on this subject. In homage to Phillis Wheatley, Walker writes: “It is not so much what you sang, as that you kept alive, in so many of our ancestors, the notion of song.”

Walker taught me that my mother is an artist in her own right. Her choices were narrower than mine, and her decision to support her husband and children was a noble one. Now that I am a “wife” and often find myself shifting between doing author appearances and washing dishes, I understand that such delineations are complicated, at best. I also understand that the success of my entire family, especially my father, was afforded by my mother’s sacrifices.

When I think of Women’s History Month, I want to pay homage to women whose role as wives often eclipsed their own sweet songs. What about all of the women who lived in the shadows of their husbands?

When National Book Award-winning author Ralph Ellison died of pancreatic cancer in 1994, he was survived by his wife, Fanny Ellison, who went on to manage his estate until her passing in 2005. Coretta Scott King carried on Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy for 38 years following her husband’s death. As head of the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Rachel Robinson has kept alive her husband’s legacy by becoming a great humanitarian and philanthropist.

I do not mean to suggest that these women are not stars in their own right. Each woman I mention is uniquely accomplished, and most have gone on to emerge from their husband’s shadows. Rachel Robinson had a distinguished career as a nursing professional. Shirley Graham DuBois, wife of W.E.B. DuBois, was a novelist and playwright. Lil Hardin Armstrong, second wife of jazzman Louis Armstrong, was a pianist, composer and bandleader and collaborated professionally with her husband during the 1920s. Amy Jacques Garvey, second wife of Marcus Garvey, was an accomplished journalist and author. Even my own mother became a respected small business owner.

Yet the line between wife and public-sphere professional can be a difficult one to navigate. Winnie Mandela, former wife of Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela, has experienced her own share of challenges in her public life — a life that will be portrayed by actress Jennifer Hudson in the upcoming film ‘Winnie.’ First Lady Michelle Obama suspended a career as a lawyer and hospital administrator to take on the role of the nation’s most public wife of all — a role that has required her to re-imagine her contributions as a professional.

What’s Up With The ‘Basketball Wives’ Controversy? Shaunie O’Neal Releases A Statement

Dram here, drama there, drama EVERYWHERE!!! Due to all of the recent drama and foolishness on VH1′s “Basketball Wives,” executive producer and co-star Shaunie O’Neal released an exclusive statement to Vibe.com about the ongoing controversy on the show.

Shaunie tells Vibe.com:

“I’m extremely happy that Basketball Wives continues to have another successful fourth season. As the ratings have been through the roof since our season opener, fans continue to tune into the lives of Evelyn, Tami, Jennifer, Royce, Suzie and myself. As there is always controversy and indifference projected on the show, because we are all individual personalities, I always hope that people will find that as much as you may agree or disagree with the opinions, the behavior, [and] even our different taste in shoes, you are taking a look inside the lives of four complete different women. I will never say I agree with some of the behavior between my girlfriends on the show, but if we were to edit certain things out the show would be scripted and not reality.

As a woman of color with kids, I am very aware of myself, but I also have to be aware that my choices cannot be the same for everyone on the show and I have to respect that. I hope the fans feel they see a balance and know we have always been real with our stories, even though it may not always be a positive portrayal of adult women but real women nonetheless. I look forward to developing other media platforms in the future and hope that fans will continue to support.”

Relationship Expert Ayize Ma’at On Washington Watch With Roland Martin Talking About Steve Harvey’s Hit Movie “Think Like A Man”

This past Friday one half of the BLAM team (Ayize Ma’at) had the honor of visiting Roland Martin’s show Washington Watch and engaging in a round table discussion about Steve Harvey’s new movie….”Think Like A Man”.  The other panelist were good folks and made the experience all the more enjoyable.

*my bad Janks for not getting a picture with ya*

The conversation centered around what women want from men when dating and whether realistic expectations are set when searching for the man of their dreams. After we finished taping the show we continued with some behind the scenes dialogue that was really engaging.  The question came up….Would you give a man the time of day if he was ‘fine as hell’ and worked behind the McDonald’s counter?….That question was then followed by….Well did you know that McDonald’s requires even those who are franchise owner’s to work in the establishment they own? Hmmm.

BLAM Fam dating women, those are just a few things to think about as you continue your search for Mr. Right.  Most importantly focus on you FIRST so you avoid becoming a slave to the process of searching for someone to make you whole.

Please Do Not Forget About Trayvon Martin

By Ilex Bien-Aime

Human beings have short attention spans. One minute we are consumed with something and the next minute we are finding something to replace that interest. The media is the same way – they love a hot story but only until another hot story comes along. God knows that about a month ago I was so tired of hearing about the “Occupy Movements”. Today, you barely know that they are still going on. This world is ever-changing with violence and disasters taking place almost on a daily basis. The news could be reporting on a case that interests us only to break away to some new, over-the-top story. That is why I say, don’t forget about Trayvon Martin!

Right now Black America is up in arms about this case. It’s not the first time that something like this has happened and I am sure that it will not be the last time. With that being said, we have the ability to make some serious changes to laws and how the system handles these types of cases. I have watched many late night news shows about this case and a lot of the commentators are saying that we will forget about this soon – maybe that’s their hope. If we do this, we will be doing ourselves a great injustice and that would not motivate our system to change.

We need to rekindle the fire that Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and many other black Civil Rights leaders started. The courts and the system back then were just as corrupt or even more corrupt than it is now but because we fought, the system had to bend. They didn’t bend because they saw the error of their ways. They bent because we would not allow ourselves to continue to be mistreated. Now today we are so comfortable in our settings that we refuse to fight and they keep abusing us. Instead of the entire community getting into the fight, we have one side that refuses to fight, another side who fights foolishly, and  another side that fights until they get bored.

We don’t have the luxury of having all of these sides. Trayvon is our son, cousin, nephew, friend, and in essence our very selfs. For many of us this story hurts but because it happened hundreds of miles away or because it isn’t our child, we aren’t taking the action that we should be taking. When people like Zimmerman get away with something like this, it makes it easier for this type of action to continue. It is only a matter of time before one of us gets badly hurt or killed because we looked suspicious to someone.

Please let us continue to keep this story in the news! Let’s continue to march, send letters, and do whatever it takes (peacefully) to show that we are not going to forget. Let us not rest until we get justice. Let us stop looking for some great person to save us or some government official and let us take it into our own hands (within the scope of the law). I am proud of what our community is doing thus far but let us not stop until we reach our goal and please please please DO NOT FORGET ABOUT Trayvon Martin!

Pastor Puts A Stripper Pole In His Pulpit In An Attempt To Save Marriages

Pastor Mike Scruggs of Light of Word Ministries in White Oak, Ohio is on a mission to save “marriage”.  He put a stripper pole (as well as a bed) in the pulpit for his series of sermons on marriage called “Battle Of The Sexes.”  It’s no surprise that he had a packed house.  Sex is one of those taboo subjects that many churches shy away from, but Pastor Scruggs expresses that real dialogue is needed from the pulpit to spice up marriages and keep families together.

Scruggs defends his teaching saying:

“We talk about sex. We talk about drugs. We talk about faith. We talk about relationships … , things that people are dealing with on a day-to-day basis…..”

Tupac Lives!!!! This is CRAZY! Check Out This Performance!

Concertgoers at Indio, California’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival witnessed a reunion of West Coast hip-hop greats. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s set included some of the rappers’ most popular hits. Eminem, 50 Cent and Warren G joined them on stage, as well as their late label-mate Tupac Shakur.

Shakur, who has been dead nearly 16 years, was projected on the Coachella stage as a life-like hologram. The rapper’s likeness performed alongside Snoop Dogg, at one point rapping “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” their 1996 collaboration and his “Hail Mary.”

Debating For No Damn Reason: ‘Aunt Viv’ and Omarosa Talk About Mary J. Blige And The Burger King Ad

By Ayize Ma’at

This “supposed to be” discussion between Janet Hubert and Omarosa really put a bad taste in my mouth.  Aside from all of the controversy surrounding Mary J. Blige and the Burger King commercial I sat and listened to these sista’s go at each other for minutes and at the end I realized they were debating for no damn reason.  It wasn’t as if they were “really” presenting opposing viewpoints..it felt more like Janet wanted to school Omarosa on how commercial advertising works.  It really didn’t feel like it was a substantive and productive conversation…it felt more egotistically catty.  Am I trippin or did yall feel the same way when you saw this.  A part of black love is sisterly love…where was it in this discussion?

New Black Panther Party Offers $10,000 Bounty For A Citizens Arrest Of George Zimmerman

By Rene Lynch

Death threats and a $10,000 bounty offered for a citizen’s arrest of George Zimmerman have raised concerns about the threat of “vigilante justice” in the racially charged case.

A group identifying itself as the New Black Panther Party is offering $10,000 to anyone who makes a citizen’s arrest of George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin slaying.

The reward, and an earlier spate of death threats, also raise questions about whether law enforcement is taking steps to protect Zimmerman and his family.

Neither the Sanford Police Department nor the Florida State Attorney’s office would discuss Zimmerman’s whereabouts on Tuesday, citing the ongoing investigation.

But the Sanford law enforcement agency issued a recent press release “requesting calm heads and no vigilante justice.”

“The City of Sanford does not condone the actions and recommendations of the New Black Panther Party,” the police department said in a response statement. “Attempts by civilians to take any person into custody may result in criminal charges or unnecessary violence.”

Zimmerman and his family have been driven into hiding in the wake of the Feb. 26 fatal shooting of Martin in Sanford, Fla. The unarmed 17-year-old was returning from a convenience store after buying candy and an iced tea when he crossed paths with Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watch captain armed with a 9-millimeter weapon.

What happened next is the subject of several local, state and federal probes and has led to national outrage and allegations of racism. Martin’s family believe Zimmerman wrongly followed the teen and provoked the deady encounter. Zimmerman meanwhile, claims he fired in self defense.

The fury over the racially charged case has even led President Obama to weigh in.

Tensions ratcheted up over the weekend when a group identifying itself as the New Black Panther Party “called for the mobilization of 10,000 black men to capture Zimmerman” and offered the bounty.

The Orlando Sentinel, which reported on the bounty, said leaders were making statements such as “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.”

Little is known about the group identifying itself as the New Black Panther Party. It has held several protests — see video above — in and around Sanford, Fla.

Leaders of the group also told the Orlando Sentinel that the group has the backing of prominent black athletes and entertainers, and is in the process of raising $1 million for its causes, but declined to offer details about its work.
