Debating For No Damn Reason: ‘Aunt Viv’ and Omarosa Talk About Mary J. Blige And The Burger King Ad

By Ayize Ma’at

This “supposed to be” discussion between Janet Hubert and Omarosa really put a bad taste in my mouth.  Aside from all of the controversy surrounding Mary J. Blige and the Burger King commercial I sat and listened to these sista’s go at each other for minutes and at the end I realized they were debating for no damn reason.  It wasn’t as if they were “really” presenting opposing viewpoints..it felt more like Janet wanted to school Omarosa on how commercial advertising works.  It really didn’t feel like it was a substantive and productive conversation…it felt more egotistically catty.  Am I trippin or did yall feel the same way when you saw this.  A part of black love is sisterly love…where was it in this discussion?

Both women agreed that the advert didn't "come out as expected" & was rightly pulled for that reason. In reality, the ad wasn't executed as "smooth" as expected and it really shouldn't have been aired at all. I believe BK wanted to create re-newed "buzz" by using a tried-&-true R&B artist —- similarly to how McD's used Justin Timberlake. "I'm lovin' it!", initially came from the 1st McD ad with Justin. —

The two seemed to be saying the same thing, but wanting the other to "back down" in a discussion on national TV.

    Correction:

There is a better way that could have been handled. If both would have stated their initial opinions in the beginning before things got heated (and left it at that), things may have turned out better. It was a stupid battle.

Janet Hubert is trying to stay in the light and her light is out.

So, what was the point? I'm with you Ayize…this was dumb as hell.
