VIDEO: Have You Heard LaTosha Brown Sing “I Know I’ve Been Changed?”

By Team BLAM

When you hear BlackLoveAndMarriage.com we want you to automatically think “GROW”, “DEVELOP”, “STRETCH”, “PUSH” AND “CHANGE”! We, at BLAM, have been called to a purpose that extends well beyond any one article, video, or relationship or family issue. We are here to encourage all of us to be intentional about the lives that we are living….starting with ourselves individually to our families and close relationships and on into the communities in which we live.

So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we were inspired by Ms. LaTosha Brown’s singing on YOUTUBE “I Know I’ve Been Changed”. And, a whole lot of other folks were too. She went from 300+ views to over a million views in just one week. Can we say VIRAL??? 🙂 What an inspiration. Check out LaTosha singing and talking about the song below.

You can’t punish yourself into change. You can’t whip yourself into shape. But you can love yourself into well-being.

Shaunie O’neal HATES That Fights Are What Bring Ratings To ‘Basketball Wives’

By Jasmine Hughes

The drink slinging, cat fighting and name calling drama has become the calling card of the nationally syndicated show, “Basketball Wives.” However, we are starting to get wind of a bit of remorse from the shows creator, Shaunie O’Neal, as she claims this is not what she signed up for.

The former basketball wife says her intentions for the show were to highlight the bond between women who understood what it was like to be married to an athlete, but now expresses, “I feel like that show is turning into ‘I have slept with a basketball player at some point in my life, so now I’m on Basketball Wives,” she told FOX news. “That’s definitely not what I brought to the table and not what I would be proud of having my name on.”

Houston Parents Reunited With Children In New Home After Their Children Were Taken By CPS

By Team BLAM

Several weeks ago we introduced the BLAM Fam to the Leonard family in Houston which had the unfortunate experience of CPS aggressively inserting themselves in their lives and removing their 6 children from a storage shed that they called home.  Many of you expressed outrage and frustration over the fact that it seemed apparent that this family was being penalized because of poverty, which is not a sufficient reason for child removal.  While others intimated that if the children weren’t “properly” taken care of then they should’ve been removed.

The simultaneous cry of anger, disappointment, and frustration with CPS seems to have shaken the tree a little bit because a Family Court Judge has ordered that the children be reunited with their parents after having been away from them for several weeks.

We’ve spoken with the father (Prince Leonard) on numerous occasions and he has expressed a sense of relief that his family is back together.  He’s fully aware that struggles still lie ahead as he and his wife endeavor to improve their current economic condition.  Fortunately they were blessed with a “new” house by a “good samaritan” which will hopefully help them to restore some sense of normalcy to their lives and heal from the agony and hell of having their children removed from their home.

We will be conducting a phone interview with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard tonight (8/5/11) to give them an opportunity to tell their story and provide information for those who want to financially help them achieve some stability.  I wouldn’t wish what they went through on anybody, and I know it would be a blessing to them if you could help…anyway you can.

For more details…you can listen to the interview on our site beginning on Monday 8/8/11.

China Anne McClain Is On Fire In New “Dynamite” Music Video

By Team BLAM

Disney star China Anne McClain covers musician Taio Cruz’s hit single, ‘Dynamite’, in new video.

‘A.N.T. Farm’ star China Anne McClain has tapped into the magic of music in her brand-new video for her cover of Taio Cruz’s hit single, ‘Dynamite.’

Jada Pinkett Smith Puts Her Kids Before Her Career

Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Redbook magazine. In the issue, the actress reveals that she gave up her career so she could concentrate on raising her children Jaden, 12, and Willow, 10.

She says to Redbook magazine, “I had to make choices. Believe me, I would still be on the road with my band, Wicked Wisdom, and making as many movies as I can a year, and doing all sorts of other things if I didn’t have the responsibility of a family. But I have children with their own talents and dreams, and I know I have to be standing next to them for that journey.”

She adds, “It was excruciating, completely excruciating. When Jaden was auditioning for The Pursuit of Happyness, my band had just gotten an offer to open for Guns N’ Roses in Europe. For me, that was unbelievable. But the choice was: I could be a rock star, or I could be on the set with my son to make sure he was healthy and happy. We all know how that story ended!”

The working mom also admits that she would prefer to raise her children in Hollywood than “in the streets of Baltimore or Philly”.

“Let me tell you what I fear most: Them growing up like I did, in a house with drugs in a war zone, where if I walked out my door I could be shot. Hollywood ain’t nothing compared to that! Growing up in the streets of Baltimore, or the streets of Philly where Will grew up — I’d rather have my kids here. It still makes me nervous that they’re part of something that isn’t totally real, but it’s up to Will and me to teach them what’s real and what’s not.”

VIDEO: Couple Who Had Kids Taken Away Receives House From Good Samaritan

VIDEO: Remember the family who lost custody of their children all because of their lack of resources? Well, guess what?! Someone donated a house to them. Yes! That’s right. A 4 bedroom house!

From KHOU News

The donation came just days after the couple was featured on KHOU 11 News because Child Protective Services had taken custody of their kids. The parents said they believed they were being punished because they’re poor.

“You shouldn’t take our kids because we’ve fallen on hard times,” said Prince Leonard.

The Leonards moved in three years ago after the father, an unemployed welder, was hired as a maintenance worker.

The family had already lost an apartment and believed the homeless shelter wasn’t safe enough.

A passerby spotted the children outside and reported them to Child Protective Services. A caseworker investigated, and the state took custody of the kids.

According to CPS, the children were removed because the storage shed was a dangerous living environment. The shed, which lacked running water, was about 12 feet wide and 25 feet long. It had an air conditioner, a refrigerator and two personal computers.

Someone who saw their story donated a four-bedroom donated the house, which the Leonards plan to move into this weekend.

A CPS spokesperson said they could get their children back as early as next week.

“Now they can be here and there, and they can play. And they have the space that they need,” their mother said.

The house has indoor plumbing, unlike the storage shed they lived in previously.

“Compared to what I come from, this is the Taj Mahal,” Prince Leonard said. “I’m just glad to be able to get my children back when they come look at this place.”
