Why a cultural alternative to valentine's day? I can see a lot of brotha's using this as an excuse escaping from buying roses.LOL How do the sista's feel about this "alternative"?

Lol Kenyatta, We created an alternative for many reasons. Most importantly, we wanted to celebrate Black Love in the proper Cultural Context. As I am sure that you may know many of the symbols and commercialism connected with Valentine's Day have negative connotations to our people. Still we embrace the Akoma (heart) symbol, the colors pink, red, and white (love, passion, and purity) and we definitely promote flowers; roses, daisies, and our all time favorite Calla Lillies. Check out our site you will see that Akoma Day is MORE not less. Thanks for sparking conversation! NYA AKOMA (TAKE HEART)
