When The One You Love Won’t Pull His Weight

VIDEO: What do you do when the one you love can’t seem to hold down a job and do their part to maintain the financial stability of your home? It’s a difficult space to be in when managing a family on minimal income and even more difficult when you know it could be better yet you and your partner can’t see eye to eye on how to get there. While this couple is not married, this young lady is at her wit’s end and says she doesn’t know how much longer she can do this. This is a rough space for any relationship to endure. What’s needed is healthy communication and tough love honesty. Without these two ingredients the relationship is vulnerable to downfall.

I can appreciate the pain and frustration from which you speak. Both members of a relationship have responsibilities to uphold. I'm curious to know how the two of you communicate when it comes to this issue. In our classes we've witnessed and assisted in the process of the impossible becoming possible through tweaking some folks methods of communication. My advice would be to not throw in the towel and continue endeavoring in a spirit of love to try different approaches to address this topic before your patience completely wears out.

It goes both ways tho. I have the same problem…but it's not me that doesn;t work…and in fact, I both have a good career, and am on track to complete my degree part-time in the very near future. The problem is, my significant other refuses to be a part of the 'rat-race'…yet, is the first to point out what we don't have, what she wants, and what she feels my shortcomings are. My thing is this…I understand time is a commodity that is in short supply…and that a lot of her time is spent taking care of our 2 kids…but, If you aren't making any money…who are you to talk? Her lack of employment and and financial contribution would be fine, if she simply did the best she could at those things…but she doesn't…she does JUST enough to get by…and it's starting to REALLY wear thin.
